Muncie, Ind. – The Northern Illinois University women's gymnastics team saw top three finishes from
Katie Ferguson and
Mikayla Brown in Sunday's dual with Ball State.
The Huskies posted a 193.975 and fell to the Cardinals who scored a 196.900.
"We had a good run going but we came up short on beam," interim head coach Nita Teague said. "We thought we were going to still be able to outpace our last score, but that didn't quite happen after beam."
Katie Ferguson (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington) anchored on bars and again earned a top three finish.
Mikayla Brown (Suwanee, Ga./Peachtree Ridge) also impressed on beam and she scored a 9.850 to earn a top three spot in the final event of the meet.
"They both looked fantastic today," Teague said. "We were struggling some on beam and for Mikayla to come up with such a strong performance I was super proud. Katie did a great job in the anchor spot on bars again."
NIU opened the meet on bars. Ferguson led the way with the impressive top three spot.
Kiera O'Shea (Norridge, Ill./Ridgewood),
Isabella Ross (Cary, N.C./Green Level) and
Drake White (Indianapolis, Ind./Bishop Chatard) all earned a score of 9.725 as the Huskies posted a 48.700.
White, Ferguson and Talia Kraus (Fairport, N.Y./Southern Connecticut State) all scored 9.800 on vault to lead the way for NIU. O'Shea posted a 9.775 as the Huskies earned a
48.925 on the second event.
Brown led the Huskies on floor with a 9.800.
Samantha Nickle (Yorktown, Va./York) and White scored 9.750 and
Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky./Woodford County) scored a 9.700.
NIU earned a 48.650 overall on the event.
Brown led the way on beam with a 9.850 and
Ellery Werner (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) added a 9.725 as the Huskies scored a 47.700.
The Huskies will be back at home at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 9 against Bowling Green in NIU's final home meet of 2025.
