DeKalb, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team took down Chicago State 7-0 inside the Nelson Tennis Center on Sunday.

"We are getting better every day. Success is a process," head coach René Vidal said. "We look forward to our next match against Ball State."

The Huskies opened the match by taking the doubles point. James Theriault (Oak Brook, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and Gustavo Juarez Lopez (Mexico City, Mexico/Texas Permian Basin) dominated 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Iker Dellien Velasco (Trinidad, Bolivia/UAB) and Chiao Bo Suo Nan (Taiwan) clinched the point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

In singles play both Sam Klein (Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) at No. 3 singles and Angus Howard (Bath, England) at No. 4 singles didn't drop a single game in 6-0, 6-0 victories to push the Huskies ahead 3-0. Pratyaksh (Delhi, India)  clinched the dual win with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Dellien Velasco bounced back after dropping the first set to win from behind 5-7, 6-0, 11-9.

Theriault and Juarez Lopez took singles wins by walkover to give the Huskies a 7-0 sweep.

The Huskies will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 13 as they host Ball State inside the Nelson Tennis Center in MAC play.
