DeKALB, Ill.—Five members of the Northern Illinois University softball program were named Academic All-District from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) as announced on Tuesday (May 27).
Madison Mathews (Yuma, Ariz./Cibola) and
Danielle Stewart (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) earn their second consecutive honor while
Jenna Turner (Marengo, Ill./Marengo),
Rylie Hartman (Kankakee, Ill./Herscher), and
Katy Ramage (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora Township) earn the recognition for the first time in their careers.
Mathews graduated this May with a 4.00 grade point average (GPA) as she earned her master's degree in higher education and student affairs. Mathews maintained a .370 batting average, led the team in home runs (7), doubles (14), and recorded 60 hits this season. Mathews was one of two Huskies to start in all 51 games for the Huskies this season. Mathews was named First Team All-MAC this season as well as serving as the MAC SAAC President and MAC Division 1 SAAC Representative.
Stewart collects her second honor from CSC as she played in 51 games with 50 starts this spring for the Huskies. Stewart holds a 3.795 GPA in Kinesiology and has collected NFCA All-Region Third Team and First Team All-MAC honors this month. At the plate, Stewart had an average of .322 with 49 hits, 12 doubles, 30 RBIs, and three home runs. Stewart was second on the team in doubles and home runs. In the pitcher's circle, Stewart had 21 appearances to 19 starts while pitching five complete games.
Turner led the Huskies offense this spring with a .380 batting average and 68 hits this season. Turner led NIU with four triples this season and 12 stolen bases. Turner set the NIU record for most runs scored in a single game, crossing the plate five times in the Huskies 20-2 win over Buffalo on April 12. Turner holds a 3.667 GPA in Sport Management and started all 51 games for NIU this spring.
Hartman and Ramage saw action in 50 and 48 games respectively as they collect their first honors from CSC. Hartman was a dual player for the Huskies as she split her time behind the plate and in the outfield. Hartman had 30 hits, three doubles, and three home runs this season as she maintained a 3.829 GPA in nursing. Ramage started all 48 games she played in, holding a .254 batting average and recording 36 hits, seven doubles, and one home run. Ramage, an outfielder for the Huskies, had a .978 fielding percentage as she holds a 3.82 GPA in Nursing.
The 2025 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. Outstanding student-athletes are nominated for Academic All-District recognition by communications directors and must have a minimum 3.50 GPA and meet high athletic standards.
