Iker Gaztambide Arrastia and
Federico Scotuzzi of the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team have been selected as the Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week and Doubles Team of the Week, the league announced today.
Gaztambide Arrastia was named Singles Player of the Week after going 2-0 on the top court against IU Indy and Illinois State this weekend. In both matches, Gaztambide Arrastia set up the clinching point for NIU. The senior recorded his 50
th career singles win on Friday evening.
Gaztambide Arrastia and Scotuzzi earned Doubles Team of the Week following their 6-3 win over Illinois State's Tomas Valencia and Adrian Dibildox, who qualified for the ITA Conference Masters Championships in the fall. It's the second time Gaztambide Arrastia and Scotuzzi have been named Doubles Team of the Week, winning it once last year.
NIU opened its season with a 5-2 win over IU Indy on Friday and pulled off a 4-3 victory against Illinois State on Saturday.
The Huskies host Xavier on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m.
