NIU (4-15, 2-6 MAC) shot a season-high from the field for the second consecutive game last Saturday at Eastern Michigan. The Huskies made a season-high 27 field goals and shot 48.2 percent from the field in a 72-62 loss to the Eagles. It was the first time since March 7, 2020 at Toledo that NIU shot 45 percent or better from the field with 10 turnovers or less. NIU has shot 40 percent or better from the field in four straight games.

For the second time this season NIU had a pair of freshmen score in double figures on Saturday. Sa'Mahn Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) had 16 points off the bench at Eastern Michigan as Emilie Sorensen (Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) had 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. The duo also combined for 30 points at Ohio on Jan. 17. The last time an NIU rookie duo had multiple games of double-figure scoring was the 2015-16 season when Courtney Woods and Mikayla Voigt did that eight times.

Miami (16-4, 8-0 MAC) took sole control of first place in the Mid-American Conference on Saturday defeating previously-unbeaten Ball State at Worthen Arena 72-52. The RedHawks shot 63 percent from the field in the third quarter to outscore the Cardinals 27-9 and take a 61-39 lead. Ilse de Vries led Miami with 23 points as Amber Tretter added 17. It was Miami's ninth straight win and 12th in its last 13 games. The RedHawks lead the MAC in scoring defense, allowing just 57.9 points per game.

NIU hosts Central Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the NIU Convocation Center at 2 p.m.
