Women's Golf | October 19

SAN MARCOS, Texas— The Northern Illinois University women's golf team wrapped up its fall season Monday (Oct. 19) at the Jim West Challenge.
 
Thanaporn (Benzy) Buakong (Nonthaburi, Thailand/Yothinburana School) and Emile Chile (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound) led the Huskies, each finishing the tournament 11 over par.
 
Chile carded three birdies in the second round and was the lone Huskie to shoot par (72). She finished the tournament with a birdie on the final hole, while Buakong recorded her final-round birdie on the third hole. Buakong carded four birdies in the second round after recording one in the opening round.
 
"Obviously, our second round was our best round of the year collectively. It was great to see the ladies grind it out and put together some great rounds," said Kim Kester, NIU head women's golf coach.
 
Dakota Tallent (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) carded four birdies during the tournament, including two in the second round.
 
Nethra Sheri (Irving, Texas/Coppell) recorded her first birdie of the tournament in the second round before adding two more over the final nine holes.
 
Christine Huse (Bærum, Norway/Norwegian Top Athlete School) carded three birdies in the opening round before adding two more over the final two rounds.
 
"We started out pretty well in the first nine holes of the opening round but struggled a bit on the back nine. We saw a similar pattern in the final round, getting off to a decent start before having some struggles on the back nine. Looking ahead to the offseason, we have a lot to work on, including gaining distance and becoming more consistent. Our goal is to be ready for the spring and put ourselves in contention to fight for a conference championship," Kester said.
 
The Huskies return to action Feb. 1, 2027, at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida.
