NIU Men’s Tennis Clears Southern University 7-0

Huskies Completes First Sweep of the Season

DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team defeated Southern, 7-0, at home on Friday evening.

NIU (4-1) has won the doubles point in all five matches this season. Iker Gaztambide Arrastia / Nikola Puntaric took the win at No. 1 while Iker Dellien / Chiao Bo Suo Nan won at No. 2. Dellien / Suo Nan are now 3-0 in doubles.

Moving to singles, Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain/Jesuitas) and Puntaric (Ljubljana, Slovenia/Tulsa) continued their winning streaks. Gaztambide Arrastia moved to 5-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Southern's Lwazi Ngwenya. Puntaric's win over Sebastien Byng moved the sophomore to 4-0 on the dual season.

Pratyaksh LNU (Delhi, India/Tagore International School) recorded his first win of the spring with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5. Suo Nan (Taiwan/Taipei Municipal Jianguo) capped the evening with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 win at No. 6.

The Huskies hit the courts again on Sunday with a doubleheader against Omaha and Wisconsin-Whitewater at home.
