DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team defeated Omaha and Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday to complete a 3-0 weekend. NIU has won six of its seven matches to begin the dual season.
Sunday began with the Huskies holding on for a 4-2 win over Omaha. NIU earned the doubles point with

Nikola Puntaric winning 6-3 at No. 1, followed by a
Iker Dellien Velasco /
Chiao Bo Suo Nan win at No. 2.
Gaztambide Arrastia and Puntaric rolled their doubles success into singles play, with Gaztambide Arrastia winning 6-2, 7-6 and Puntaric securing a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The Mavericks put the pressure on NIU by winning the next two matches. This allowed for
Federico Scotuzzi to seal the match with a 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 win in dramatic fashion.
Shifting into the match against Wisconsin-Whitewater, a 6-3 win from Gaztambide Arrastia / Puntaric gave the Huskies the early lead.
A trio of wins from the senior class finalized the win in the Huskies favor. Dellien recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 followed by Gaztambide Arrastia continuing his singles winning streak. Scotuzzi sealed the win with a 6-4, 6-0 victory from No. 2.
The Huskies final two wins of the match came from a pair of sophomores in Pratyaksh LNU and Suo Nan, each who recorded their second wins on the weekend.
Up next, NIU will hit the road, beginning with traveling to Wisconsin on Friday, Feb. 21 and then Marquette on Sunday, Feb. 22.
