Men's Tennis | February 20
DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team will travel for the first time this dual season, competing at Wisconsin on Saturday, Feb. 21 and at Marquette on Sunday, Feb. 22.
The Huskies (6-1) recorded three wins last weekend, posting victories over Southern University, Omaha and Wisconsin-Whitewater. NIU held on for a contested match against Omaha, winning 4-2, while sweeping Southern and handling Wisconsin-Whitewater 6-1.
Iker Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain / Jesuitas) won Mid-American Conference Singles Player of the Week for the second time this season following a 3-0 weekend at No. 1. Alongside
Nikola Puntaric (Ljubljana, Slovenia / Tulsa), the duo went 3-0 at No. 1 doubles as well.
Federico Scotuzzi (Bergamo, Italy / North Alabama) clinched the match against Omaha, winning 7-5, 5-7, 6-4. Scotuzzi and
Chiao Bo Suo Nan (Taiwan / Taipei Municipal Jianguo), who posted two wins this weekend, are now both riding three-match winning streaks.
The Opponents
Wisconsin (8-1) downed both DePaul and Purdue last weekend and have won seven consecutive matches. The Badgers only loss this season came to No. 19 Baylor. Michael Minasyan is the No. 75 ranked singles player in the country.
Marquette (1-8) split the matches last week against Illinois State and Northwestern, holding on to a 4-2 wins over the Redbirds last Wednesday. The Huskies have won the last three matches against the Eagles, dating back to 2021.
