MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team capped its road trip this weekend with a 4-0 win over Marquette on Sunday afternoon.
NIU answered quickly following its loss to Wisconsin on Saturday, claiming the doubles point over the Eagles.
Iker Gaztambide Arrastia/Nikola Punatric won 6-1 at No. 1 while
Lorenzo Leti Messina/
Federico Scotuzzi took a victory at No. 3 by score of 6-2.
Puntaric (Ljubljana, Slovenia / Tulsa) kept the momentum going in singles, defeating Kristian Blagoev 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 for his sixth win of the season. Scotuzzi (Bergamo, Italy / North Alabama) recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win and has now won four of his last five matches.
The clinching point came from Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain / Jesuitas), who sealed the match with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Blake Roegner at No. 1.
The Huskies have now won five of their last six and are back in action this coming weekend. NIU will travel to Chicago State on Saturday, Feb. 28 to play its postponed match from January and return home for a Sunday match against Grinnell College.
