DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team faces a pair of Mid-American Conference road matches this week, heading to Western Michigan on Thursday and Ball State on Saturday. Both matches are set for 12 p.m. CT.
NIU (10-3) has won eight of its last 10 matches, with the only losses coming from ranked Big Ten opponents in that stretch. Last weekend, the Huskies opened MAC play with a 5-2 win over UIC on the road.
Iker Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain / Jesuitas) received his third MAC Singles Player of the Week honor this season this week. The senior recorded a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) win over No. 23 Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois on Friday and followed that up with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 at No. 1 on Saturday over UIC.

Iker Dellien Velasco secured a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles over UIC and have now won three of their last four. Pratyaksh LNU (Delhi, India / Tagore International School) has also won three of four singles matches following his singles win over UIC.
The Opponents
Western Michigan (8-8, 1-1 MAC) split its matches last weekend with Buffalo and Toledo, capping its weekend with a 5-2 win over the Rockets. The Broncos reached the MAC tournament as the No. 3 seed last season and finished as the runner-up behind Buffalo. Ashton Adesoro, who earned Second Team All-MAC last season for WMU, is 10-4 in singles play this season.
Ball State (6-7, 1-1 MAC) also split its matches with Toledo and Buffalo last weekend, walking away from the Toledo match with a victory. The Cardinals will host UIC on Thursday before taking on NIU on Saturday.
