DeKALB, Ill. – Iker Gaztambide Arrastia of the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team broke into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings, the organization announced on Tuesday, coming in at No. 63.
The senior is the first Huskie to receive a ranking by ITA since 2015 when Dor Amir and Axel Lagerlof were ranked twice by ITA in doubles. Gaztambide Arrastia is the first NIU singles player to be ranked since at least 2010.
Gaztambide Arrastia has paced the Huskies this season, recording a 12-2 singles record and also has a 12-3 combined doubles record. Eleven of his 12 victories have came against at No. 1 singles.
Already a three-time MAC Singles Player of the Week, Gaztambide Arrastia turned heads when he upset No. 23 Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois on March 6.
The Pamplona, Spain native has 120 combined career victories while at NIU with 61 singles wins.
