CLEVELAND—Madison Carlson (South Beloit, Ill./South Beloit) has been named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Pitcher of the Week as announced today (March 31).
Carlson, who earns her first MAC Pitcher of the Week honor, earned both wins in the circle for Northern Illinois University this past weekend as the Huskies went 2-1 against UMass.
On Friday, Carlson threw a complete game in NIU's 3-2 win over the Minutewomen, allowing three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts. Carlson's seven strikeouts matched her career best which was set last weekend. In the third game of the series on Saturday, Carlson threw 3.1 innings of relief to earn the win as the Huskies defeated UMass 5-4. She allowed one hit and struck out three to move to 5-0 on the season. In total for the series, she allowed four hits, two runs, and struck out 10 batters.
NIU will take on Central Michigan this weekend in a three-game series in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The Huskies and Chippewas will start their series with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. CT on Friday, April 3 before concluding the series on April 4 at 12 p.m.
