NIU Heads to Iowa for Quad Meet

DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University gymnastics team will compete against Central Michigan, No. 19 Iowa and Southeast Missouri State on Friday, March 6 with the Hawkeyes hosting the quad meet in Iowa City. The meet will be broadcasted on B1G+ at 6 p.m.

NIU has faced both Central Michigan and SEMO this season, hosting Central Michigan in its home finale last weekend and hosting SEMO in the Beauty and the Beast meet. The Huskies last played Iowa in 2017.

Against the Chippewas last Friday, the Huskies set a new team high on floor with a 49.050. Freshman Makenna Brooks (Kokomo, Ind. / Eastern) placed on two events, winning on floor with a 9.875 and earning third place on beam with a 9.750.

Junior Dawsyn Sallee (Versailles, Ky. / Woodford County High) placed on vault for the sixth time this season, taking third, while sophomore Drake White (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) tied for second on floor with 9.825.

Central Michigan
The Chippewas defeated NIU last Friday, finishing the meet with a team score of 195.2500. Central Michigan swept Mid-American Conference Gymnast and Specialist of the Week awards with Luciana Alvarado-Reid named Gymnast of the Week and Lia Kmieciak earning Specialist.

Iowa
The Hawkeyes are ranked No. 19 according to Road to Nationals and have a NQS of 196.436. Aurelie Tran and Sophie Schriever each have a top 20 NQS in the all-around. Iowa finished second in a quad meet against No. 5 UCLA, No. 19 Ohio State and No. 25 Maryland last Friday.

SEMO
The Redhawks defeat Long Island last Friday, winning 194.525-193.875. SEMO has a team score NQS of 193.871. Taylor Ingle has won Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week each of the last four weeks.
