CHICAGO, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team traveled to UIC for its Mid-American Conference opener on Saturday evening, winning 5-2.
NIU (10-3) claimed the doubles point by taking courts No. 1 and No. 2.

Chiao Bo Suo Nan clinched 6-3.
UIC struck first in singles, winning at No. 3 and No. 4 to take a 2-1 lead in the match. NIU responded by sweeping the final four courts to seal its opening MAC win.
Puntaric (Ljubljana, Slovenia / Tulsa) tied the match at 2-2 with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Eldin Noric. Suo Nan (Taiwan / Taipei Municipal Jianguo) followed with a three-set win at No. 5, holding on for a 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-4 victory to push momentum back to the Huskies favor.
Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain / Jesuitas) cliched for NIU at No. 1, winning 6-3, 7-6 (7), 6-0. Pratyaksh LNU (Delhi, India / Tagore International School) capped the match for NIU by taking a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
NIU will play two MAC matches on the road next week, traveling to Western Michigan on Thursday, March 12 and then head to Ball State on Saturday, March 14.
