DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team caps its road portion of the 2025-26 schedule this weekend with trips to Buffalo and Toledo. NIU will face Buffalo on Thursday, April 2 and Toledo on Saturday, April 4 with both matches set for 12 p.m. CT.

The Huskies defeated both Buffalo and Toledo just two weeks ago at Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House. NIU is 5-1 Mid-American Conference play and holds the pole position in the standings with its lone loss coming in a 4-3 battle with Ball State.

NIU breezed through its opponents last weekend, defeating UIC and Judson by a combined score of 11-0. The Huskies only dropped two sets across the two matches.

Senior Federico Scotuzzi (Pamplona, Spain / Jesuitas) is picking up steam late, winning his last six singles matches. One of those six matches was a 7-6, 2-6, 7-6 match-clinching point against Buffalo on March 19.

Senior Iker Gaztambide Arrastia (Bergamo, Italy / North Alabama) remained in the ITA Division I Men's Singles National Rankings, coming in at No. 65.

The Opponents
Buffalo (11-6, 5-2 MAC) has won two of its three since falling to the Huskies, posting wins against UIC and Ball State. The Bulls have five MAC Player of the Week honors this season. A win at the 2025 MAC Champions on Thursday would give NIU its fourth season sweep over Buffalo since 2021.

Toledo (6-13, 1-6 MAC) hosts UIC on Thursday before welcoming the Huskies on Saturday and the Rockets have dropped their last three matches. Cole Cozens has 10 singles wins for Toledo, a team-high for the Rockets. NIU last won at Toledo on March 17, 2023.
