DEKALB, Ill. -- Northern Illinois University men's basketball head coach Matt Majkrzak has added Devin Whitelow to the Huskie men's basketball staff as an assistant coach. Whitelow comes to NIU following two seasons as an assistant coach at Emporia State.
"Devin is a rising start in the profession and is someone that's made a big impact everywhere he's been," said Majkrzak. "Although I've never coached with Devin I've always had a tremendous respect for his talent evaluation and tireless work ethic on the recruiting trail. As a native of Illinois, he will be instrumental in keeping the top players in the state playing at NIU. I first got to know Devin when I recruited him, and he went on to have a standout career at Winona State. He was a great point guard and continues to be a great leader as a coach. He's got an elite basketball mind and will make a huge impact working with our guards."
Whitelow joined the Emporia State men's basketball staff in 2024, working under head coach Tom Billeter for the past two seasons. This past season, Whitelow helped mentor Trey Redd, who posted the 15th-best assist/turnover ratio in NCAA Division II (2.75).
"I am extremely excited to be joining Coach Majkrzak's staff here at NIU," said Whitelow. "The future is bright here and I can't wait to get to work. Go Huskies!"
A native of Peoria, Ill., Whitelow began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, S.D. in 2022-23. He then returned to his alma mater, Winona State, as an assistant coach for the 2023-24 season, where he helped the Warriors to a 21-win season
Whitelow played collegiately at Winona State, where he led the nation with a 5.96 assist/turnover ratio in 2018-19. He was a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All-Academic honoree and earned the Bob Olson NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year award in 2021-22. Whitelow earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Winona State in 2021.
