Men's Golf | April 5
FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The Northern Illinois University men's golf team took one of the most prolific tournament fields in collegiate golf this weekend at Vanderbilt Legends Club, placing 13th at Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship.
The Huskies posted a 54-hole team score of 886, two strokes ahead of Western Kentucky and five back of 12th-place Princeton. Auburn, the #1 team in the country, won the tournament by 17 shots over #11 Vanderbilt. #12 Tennessee, #13 Ole Miss and Mississippi State rounded out the top five. Charlotte, ranked #19 in the nation, was sixth.
Sophomore
Conner McCall (Vandalia, Ill./Vandalia) was the Huskies' top finisher for the second time this spring. McCall tied for 44th at eight-over par with a 54-hole score of 221. He led NIU in Friday's opening round with an even par 71. On Sunday McCall had the Huskies' lowest round of the weekend with a two-under par 69 that included four birdies on the day and no bogeys in his last 10 holes.
The Huskies had their best team score of the tournament on Friday with a seven-over par 291.
Beau Petersen (Gretna, Neb./Gretna) and
Corentin Guilloux (Longages, France) both had one-over par rounds of 72. Petersen had five birdies in the round while Guilloux birdied 17 and 18 to get to one-over.
Craig Long (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) rounded out the scoring group with a 76.
Petersen and Guilloux both placed in the top 60 this weekend. Petersen tied for 57th at 11-over par with a 224. Guilloux was one stroke behind with a 12-over par 225 and tied for 60th.
The Huskies are back in action next weekend, April 11-12, at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate hosted by Ohio State at Columbus Country Club.
