Men's Golf | June 18
DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University men's golf team had six student-athletes named to the Academic All-MAC Team as the Mid-American Conference released this season's honorees on Thursday.
This ties NIU's program record for Academic All-MAC selections set previously in 2018 and 2021. The Huskies led the MAC in Academic All-MAC selections with Miami second with five.
"I've had a front row seat to the continued growth and success of NIU Golf, and it's been incredible to watch," said head coach
John Carlson. "Congratulations to these six team members on earning Academic All-MAC honors. Their commitment to excellence extends far beyond the golf course and into the classroom."
Junior
Craig Long (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) earned his second Academic All-MAC Team honor. He was named to the CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team earlier this week. Long was an All-MAC Second Team selection this season, posting a scoring average of 73.182. He was named MAC Golfer of the Week and MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week after his win at the Badger Invitational on Sept. 23. Long carded a final round 65, one stroke shy of tying the single-round scoring record.
Sophomores
Conner McCall (Vandalia, Ill./Vandalia) and
Patrick Raupp (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) were also CSC Academic All-District selections this week. McCall led the Huskies this season with a scoring average of 73.091. He was MAC Golfer on the Week on Feb. 27 after he tied for sixth at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational with a seven-under par 209. Raupp was NIU's top finisher at the MAC Championship, tying for fifth place.
Sophomores
Beau Petersen (Gretna, Neb./Gretna) and
Jack Mulligan (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central) earned their first Academic All-MAC selections along with redshirt-freshman
Devin Swoyer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central). Swoyer had a pair of top-10 finishes this season along with a fifth-place at the Purdue Fall Invitational, for which he was named MAC Golfer of the Week.
"We challenge our student-athletes to represent our program with class, positive energy and an elite mindset," Carlson added. "These individuals embody those values every day. It's rewarding to see goals being achieved both on the course and in the classroom. I'm proud of this group and excited for what's ahead."
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests completed in the particular sport. First-year students and transfers in their first year at their school are not eligible.
