ROCHELLE, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 match to Western Michigan on Thursday afternoon.
Both NIU and Western Michigan qualified for the Mid-American Conference Tournament last weekend and the season series is now split with the road team winning each.
The Huskies won their 17th doubles point of the season with wins coming at No. 1 and No. 2.

Federico Scotuzzi claimed their third win of the season as a duo, taking a 6-3 victory.

Nikola Puntaric clinched the point in dramatic fashion with a 7-5 win.
In singles, No. 63 Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain / Jesuitas) secured his seventh consecutive victory, downing Alex Antonopoulos 6-1, 6-3. The senior is 18-2 in singles play, including an 8-1 record in conference play.
NIU closes its season on Saturday against Ball State, where the seniors will be recognized prior to the match against the Cardinals. The match will be in the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House or at Rochelle Township High School based on weather conditions.
