Men's Basketball

Huskies Add David Douglas Jr.

DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University men's basketball head coach Matt Majkrzak announced that David Douglas Jr. (Park Forest, Ill./Yorkville Christian) will join the Huskies for the upcoming season. Douglas is the 11th signing for NIU for the 2026-27 season.

"David is not only having a homecoming returning to the region, but also to the Horizon League," said Majkrzak. "David was the Freshman of the Year at Green Bay a few years back after an impressive high school career at Yorkville Christian. As a player, he's a proven prolific shooter and an elite defender and we are excited about the impact he will make at NIU. David is the guy you want with the ball in his hands because he always makes the right basketball play and is all about winning. We are excited to have DJ back playing in our region."

Douglas comes to DeKalb from Fresno State where he averaged 7.2 points per game while shooting 39.7 percent (29-of-73) from three-point range during the 2025-26 season. Douglas began his collegiate career at Green Bay in 2023-24, earning Horizon League Freshman of the Year honors while averaging 8.5 points per game, helping the Phoenix to an 18-win season. The 6-foot-5 Douglas then joined Fresno State but was limited to just six games in his first year with the Bulldogs due to injury. Douglas won a Class 1A state championship at Yorkville Christian as a junior in 2022 and averaged 33.8 points per game, eighth-best in the nation, as a senior the following year.
