DEKALB, Ill. – The NIU volleyball and men's golf programs start their seasons this weekend as the fall sports season continues to ramp up. Huskie men's and women's soccer continue their respective seasons this week, with the NIU men's soccer team competing at home for the first time on Thursday and Sunday.

The NIU Volleyball team opens the season at the Southern Indiana Invitational, Aug. 28-29. The Huskies open the season against former conference foe-Eastern Michigan on Aug. 28 with first serve set for 10 a.m. CT. NIU will also take on Murray State (Aug. 28) and hosts Southern Indiana (Aug. 29).
The Huskies return eight athletes from last season, which saw the best start since the 2011 season. Team blocking leaders
Rylea Alvin and
Autumn Flynn return in the middle while
Ava Grevengoed, who totaled 300 kills last season, and
Kylie Schulze (511 assists) continue to help the offensive efforts.

The NIU men's golf team opens its 2026-27 season this weekend at the Virtues Intercollegiate, hosted by Miami at Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio. The Huskies return seven golfers from the squad that finished second at the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championship, including All-MAC Second Team honoree
Craig Long. Long won last season's Badger Invitational and was second on the team with a scoring average of 73.182. Junior
Conner McCall led NIU last year with a 73.091 scoring average. This is the first of six tournaments NIU will play in this fall.

The first two home games of the 2026 season see the NIU men's soccer team welcome Marquette to DeKalb on Thursday (Aug. 27) and UIC on Sunday (Aug. 30). The Huskies kicked off the season with a split of matches against Butler and Loyola Chicago. NIU opened the year with a 2-0 win over Butler in Indianapolis before falling, 3-1, to Loyola in Chicago,
Tobias Crear netted goals in both games for the Huskies. Marquette went 1-0-1 on the opening weekend of the season while UIC started 0-1-1 and visits Oakland on Thursday before coming to DeKalb.

NIU women's soccer picked up its first win of the season on Sunday (Aug. 23) as the Huskies scored a 3-0 win over Northern Iowa.
Monica Correa,
Julianna Hill and
Dahlia Rodriguez each tallied a goal and an assist in the victory over the Panthers while
Alexandra Devory and
Lauren Pearson each played 45 minutes in goal and combined for the shutout. It marked the first time the Huskies had scored three goals in a game since a 3-1 win over Ball State on Oct. 24, 2024. This week, the Huskies head to Missouri on Thursday (Aug. 27), the Tigers are currently 1-2-1 on the season, before visiting Marquette on Sunday (Aug. 30), who is off to a 3-0-1 start.
