Baseball: February 2014 Archives

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

Baseball: The Huskies had a rough go of things at the Fuddruckers Lobo Invite. On Friday, February 21, they nearly beat Missouri State after being down 8-0, but NIU came up just short and lost 9-8. Later that day, against New Mexico, the team fell in a 12-0 defeat. On Saturday, February 22, the Huskies lost once more to Missouri State, 11-0 being the final this time. On Sunday, February 23, NIU and New Mexico tied 3-3 after 10 innings of play. 

Softball: The Huskies went 3-1 last weekend at the Disney Diamond 9 Citrus Classic to improve their record to 5-4 this year. On Friday, they took down Fairfield, 7-3, and IPFW, 4-0. The lone loss of the event came against Albany on Saturday, 3-1. On Sunday, NIU bounced back to defeat Delaware, 2-1.  

Women's Basketball: On Wednesday, February 19, the Huskies fell at Akron, 89-75. They followed up that performance with an 85-77 loss at home against Central Michigan Saturday. On the following Thursday however, NIU snapped its six-game losing streak with a 68-59 overtime victory against Toledo. NIU is 9-16 on the season. 

Wrestling: NIU ended the regular season on a high note at Buffalo. Against the Bulls, the Huskies were able to come back from being down 11-0 in the match to win 20-14. The Huskies ended the regular season with a 7-11 record and a 2-6 conference record. They will next play at the MAC Championships on Saturday, March 8. 

Gymnastics: On Friday, NIU placed third in the State of Illinois Classic in Normal, Ill. with a team score of 193.625. The following Sunday, the Huskies fell at Bowling Green, 194.825-193.075. Next up for the team is Senior Day. On Sunday, March 2, the Huskies will host Central Michigan for a meet at 2:00 p.m.

Women's Golf: NIU golfers performed well as they took sixth in the Islander Classic on on Tuesday, February 25. The team shot a 299 on the final day of the tournament, the third lowest team total in the history of the program.

Track & Field: As a final tuneup for the MAC Indoor Championships, the Huskies competed at the Ball State Quadrangular. They took third in the event. The indoor championships will run on both February 28 and March 1. 

Men's Basketball: Thursday, February 20 against Eastern Michigan, the Huskies took an intense double overtime game over Eastern Michigan, 61-59. The following Sunday, the team took a tight 70-67 defeat at Central Michigan. The Huskies bounced back with a win against the then top team in the MAC, Toledo, 74-66. The Huskies are 13-14 this season. 

Men's Tennis: NIU improved to 10-3 on the season with three wins in recent memory.  On Thursday, the Huskies dropped Butler, 7-0. On Saturday, they took both of their matches, playing against Western Illinois and Dayton, 7-0 and 4-0 respectively.
