TOLEDO, Ohio - Senior Ashley Morrow got the Huskies off to an early lead, winning titles for the hammer throw (52.10m) and the discus throw (41.70m). Freshman Jessica Statler got her outdoor career of to a great start, leaping her way to first place in the high jump with a distance of 5'7".
Sprinters Lorene Skipper, Coretta Evans and hurdler Carolyn Vasquez all took second in their events. Skipper in the 800-meter run (2:17.88), Evans in the 400-meter dash (59.18) and Vasquez in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.48. Sophomore Meghan Ginter earned a second place finish in the 2,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 7:21.54.
The early productivity of the field athletes put the Huskies in first place after ten events.
The Huskies banked points from 20 athletes and earned 16 top five finishes.
"Once again our ladies rose to the occasion," said head coach Connie Teaberry. "We had to hold a few ladies out of events because of the weather who would have earned more points for us. Overall I am proud of our ladies and the way they performed this weekend."
The Huskies will be back in action on April 14 at the Illinois Invitational in Champaign. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. CST.
