NIU Freshman Jessica Statler Captured The High Jump Title At The Redbird Classic

DEKALB, Ill. - NIU freshman Jessica Statler (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) won the title in the high jump with a mark of (1.75m / 5'8.75"). Statler qualified for the NCAA regional meet and for the US track and field junior national championship. Statler is still undefeated in the high jump during the outdoor season.

The Huskies sprinters had a strong performance in Normal, Ill. Junior Coretta Evans (Wheeling, Ill.) finished second in the 200-meter dash (25.40) and fifth in the 400-meter dash (58.52). Senior Lorene Skipper (Hendersonville, Tenn.) earned a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash (26.11) and fourth in the 400-meter dash (58.13). Freshman Abigail Wyatt (Momence, Ill.) finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.14).

Sophomore Meghan Ginter won the title in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of (11:40.86). Junior Stacey Rosch (Carol Stream, Ill.) finished in fifth-place in the 5000-meter run (19:09.60).

Junior hurdler Carolyn Vasquez (Arlington Heights, Ill.) finished in second-place in the 400-meter hurdle with a time of (1:05.28). Junior Lauren Kubasiak (Genoa, Ill.) finished in third place in the same event (1:05.95).

The Huskies also finished in second-place in the 4x100 meter relay (49.18) and in the 4x400 meter relay (3:56.90).

The NIU women's track and field team will be back in action on May 5 at the Wisconsin Twilight. The meet is scheduled for 9 a.m. CDT.
