Rockford, Ill. - It had been nearly three weeks since the Northern Illinois men's tennis team had competed, but the Huskies did not miss a beat in their return to the court on Friday as NIU earned the 6-1 non-conference victory over Green Bay at the Boylan Tennis Center.

"We played pretty well today," NIU head men's tennis coach Pontus Hiort said. "It was nice to get back to competition. We had some strong doubles play and we played well in singles. Overall, it was a pretty good effort."

With the victory, NIU improves to 3-3 on the season, while Green Bay falls to 5-6 overall.

Junior Brian Livingston (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and senior Adam Ford (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) teamed up for the 8-6 win over Green Bay's Tim Prudlow and Mark Goldin at No. 1 doubles. Livingston would later earn the 6-1, 6-1 win over Prudlow at No. 1 singles, as well.

 

NIU senior Alex Friesen (Vancouver, British Columbia/Burnaby Central) and junior Jimmy Chu (Lima, Peru/San Augustin) cruised to the 8-3 win over Matt Clegg and Matt Keesey. Friesen also picked up the 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Goldin at No. 2 singles. Chu followed suit with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Keesey at No. 4 singles.

 

At No. 3 doubles, NIU freshman Matt Hansen (Topeka, Kan./Miami Online (FL)) and senior Diego Zegarra-Ballon (Lima, Peru/Markham College Prep) teamed up for the 8-4 win over Brian Zaron and Eric Plaushines. Hansen would go on for the 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 win over John Brough at No. 5 singles, while teammate Javier Bernabe (Segovia, Spain/IES Mariano Quintanilla) claimed the 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 win over Plaushines at No. 6 singles.
