Chicago, Ill. - Northern Illinois' four-match winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon, as the DePaul men's tennis team earned the 5-2 non-conference victory over the Huskies at the Lakeshore Athletic Club.
"We needed to play better to beat a pretty good team like DePaul," NIU head men's tennis coach Pontus Hiort said. "The momentum swung our way a few times in the match and we didn't take advantage of it and it swung back DePaul's way."
With the victory, DePaul improves to 10-6, while the Huskies fall to 6-4.
NIU senior Alex Friesen (Vancouver, British Columbia/Burnaby Central) was the big winner for the Huskies, as he claimed a 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 triumph over Jose Moncada at No. 2 singles. Friesen would later team up with junior Jimmy Chu (Lima, Peru/San Augustin) at No. 2 doubles and pick up the 8-4 win over Moncada and Vanja Grgec.
NIU junior Brian Livingston (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) earned the other win for the Huskies at No. 1 singles with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Austin Doerner.
