Track and Field Heads to Lee Calhoun Memorial

April 11, 2008

DeKALB, Ill. - Coming off a second place finish at the Chicagoland Championships, the Northern Illinois women's track and field team travels to Macomb, Saturday, for the Lee Calhoun Memorial.

The Huskies will be competing against 14 teams at the meet, including division-I programs Western Illinois, Chicago State, Eastern Illinois, Iowa, Marquette and Illinois-Chicago. Other schools competing include Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, Augustana (Ill.), Knox College, Monmouth College, Culver-Stockton, Danville Area C.C. and Lincoln College.

Northern Illinois will look to build on a performance at Chicagoland that included five event titles, two from sophomore thrower Cora Caulfield. Sophomore Brittany Houghton will try to beat her Chicagoland triple-jump performance, where she set a personal best with a 37-09.05 leap.

The meet is named for two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Lee Calhoun, who was the first man to win back-to-back high hurdles gold, winning in both 1956 in Melbourne and 1960 in Rome.
