OXFORD, Ohio - Darion "Jake" Anderson recorded his 16th double-digit scoring output of the season, but the Northern Illinois men's basketball team (6-12, 2-4 MAC) shot a season-low 30.9 percent from the field, and fell to host Miami University (11-7, 4-2), 80-52, at Millett Hall Wednesday night. The Huskies have now lost four-of their last five Mid-American Conference contests.

Anderson was the lone Huskie in double figures, but nine NIU players scored, including freshman Michael Fakuade, who turned in his first two career points in a season-high seven minutes. Freshman Tyler Storm also chipped in nine points. The RedHawks were led by Antonio Ballard (14 points) and Michael Bramos (13), who each provided five made field goals. In all, 11 Miami players scratched the scoring column.

Miami posted statistical advantages in field goals (26-17), three-point field goals (4-3), free throws (24-15), assists (16-6), blocks (8-3) and steals (10-7). Despite trailing the RedHawks by six rebounds at halftime, the Huskies had a three-rebound (39-36) advantage on the boards.

The Huskies shot just 21.9 percent (7-of-32) in the opening half, while Miami countered with a 15-of-28 (.536) mark, and held a 23-17 rebounding advantage. NIU got off to a 5-0 start, but the lead was short-lived, as the RedHawks claimed the lead for good (6-5) with 17:36 remaining.

MU claimed its first double-digit advantage (26-16) of the game with 7:07 left in the opening stanza after Bramos' third field goal of the game. The RedHawks out-scored the Huskies 24-10 in the paint, and raced into the locker room at halftime with a decisive 40-20 lead.

The RedHawks kept the momentum going in the second half's early stages, and opened a 30-point (69-39) lead with 7:30 remaining. Miami's lead reached a game-high 34 points (78-44) with 3:32 remaining. The Huskies finished the game on a 6-2 run. Anderson scored eight points in the second half, and all of Storm's nine points came in the second frame.

Northern Illinois will return home to host MAC-East foe Bowling Green Saturday (Jan. 31) at the Convocation Center beginning at 4 p.m. The first-place NIU women's team will take on the Falcons at 1 p.m. in the second Huskie basketball doubleheader of the season.
