HOUSTON -The Northern Illinois University softball team wrapped up play in the Marriott Houston Classic falling to McNeese State, 2-1, Sunday at the University of Houston's Cougar Softball Stadium.

NIU (2-3) struggled offensively, mustering only one run on four hits. Andrea Colosimo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) provided the lone highlight for the Huskies in the fourth inning, belting out her second home run in as many days to bring NIU to within one run of the Cowgirls. She went 2-for-3 at the plate, accounting for half of Northern Illinois' hit total.

"Andrea had a good day at the plate," NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard. "What it comes down to is you can't rely on one person to carry your offensive attack. We're just trying to find a way to get more production out of the rest of our line up."

McNeese State jumped out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and third innings. Morgan Bittner (Long Beach, Calif./Long Beach Poly) turned in another solid outing, allowing two runs on four hits. Bittner, a freshman, performed well in her first collegiate tournament, going 1-2 on the weekend with a 3.71 ERA, allowing eight runs in 17 innings.

The Huskies are back in action Friday, February 27 when NIU travels to Birmingham for the Magic City Classic. Northern Illinois opens play against Samford at 3:30 p.m. Central.
