Huskies Travel to Northwestern Wednesday

April 21, 2009

DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University softball team wraps up its seven-game road trip when the Huskies travel to Evanston, Ill. to take on the No. 10 Northwestern Wildcats at Sharon J. Drysdale Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Huskies (11-31) head to Northwestern looking to rebound from a doubleheader loss to Miami University Saturday. Northern Illinois played well in the first game, scoring three runs in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead, before the RedHawks came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to win game one, 4-3. Miami (OH) then went on to post a 7-0 victory in game two.

Andrea Colosimo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) turned in a solid performance in the first game, going 3-for-3 with two runs batted in. Colosimo is tied for the team lead in RBI with Bailey Ouellette. The two have driven in 19 runs this season. Ouellette matched her career-high in home runs Friday belting her fifth homer of the season, a two-run shot, in NIU's 5-3 loss to Ball State Friday.

"They just need to get back to work on what they are doing in the three and four hole," NIU head coach Lindsay Chouinard said of Colosimo and Ouellette. "When we had our success early in the year, it's because they were producing there."

Northwestern (27-9) enters play Wednesday winners of four of its last five. The Wildcats earned a split in their doubleheader with Purdue Saturday in West Lafayette.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Fans can follow all the action live via Gametracker at www.niuhuskies.com.
