DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois men's tennis team will close its fall 2011 season this weekend, Oct. 21-23, staying in state for the Northwestern Wildcat Invitational. The Huskies will send six of its nine players on the roster to the Big-10 Tournament.
Last weekend the Huskies left a footprint in the region, traveling to the ITA Midwest Regional at Ohio State, where all four of the Huskies who participated won matches in the tournament.
In the singles main draw, the Huskies had two players in the event in Maksym Bartiuk and Axel Lagerlof, where Bartiuk fell in the first round and Lagerlof advanced to the round of 32 and eventually fell there. Both players fell to ranked players in the draw.
However, Bartiuk would find success in the doubles bracket with his partner Roman Turtygin, winning the pair's first match to advance to the round of 32. Max Phillips and Turtygin won singles contests in the consolation draw.
Lagerlof will not be competing this weekend in Evanston, as he has competed in every tournament thus far this season.
