Huskies Close Day One of Northwestern Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northern Illinois men's tennis team completed day one of the Northwestern Wildcat Invitational, finishing the day with a 3-6 record, with two of the victories occurring in singles.

"We put ourselves in a position today to earn some really big victories and have a big day," said Head Coach Patrick Fisher. "We had our chances today and we'll be looking to improve our results tomorrow."

Junior Maksym Bartiuk earned two victories during the day, defeating Wisconsin's Alex Robles in straight sets, 7-6 (0), 7-6 (2) and teaming with senior Roman Turtygin in doubles with an 8-6 victory over Iowa's Garrett Dunn and Michael Swank.

Junior Maximilian Phillips also earned a victory for the Huskies today, defeating the Badgers Akers in three sets 7-6 (1), 3-6, 11-9.

Northern Illinois returns to action tomorrow, with matches slated to start at 8 a.m.
