DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois women’s tennis team (0-2) continues its early season road stretch tomorrow as it heads to Danville, Ill., to face Eastern Illinois (1-0) at the Danville Tennis Center at 2 p.m. CT.
The Huskies are coming off a tough weekend in Wisconsin, but a positive one as many players were competing at new positions. The three new doubles pairings had a clean sweep of UW-Milwaukee on Jan. 29, but were all defeated a day later at Wisconsin. Also against the Panthers, sophomore Kelly Phillips and freshmen Haley Dekkinga each nabbed their first win of the spring, both in straight-sets.
Eastern Illinois began its spring season on Jan. 29 with a 4-2 win over SIU-Edwardsville. The Panthers return six players from last year’s squad that finished 6-12, but played a pair of freshmen in the top two spots against SIUE.
Just like this year, the 2010 match-up between NIU and EIU was also played at a neutral site. The Huskies came away with a hard-fought 4-3 victory behind current-junior Emily Rogers’ first-ever win at the No. 1 position.
