DES MOINES, Iowa - With only doubles play beginning on day one, the Northern Illinois men's tennis team finished 2-3 in doubles play of the Drake Invitational.
Doubles pair Maksym Lagutin and Bryant Wei lost both of their matches, while Axel Lagerlof and Max Phillips lost their first and won their consolation match against Baker and Lorenz Laurel of Creighton. The NIU pair won their second match in the consolation over Andre Lepine and Brandon Lupo, 8-4, to win the consolation bracket.
The Huskies were in competition with Creighton, Drake, Gustavus Adolphus, Iowa and Northern Colorado.
Northern Illinois will resume the Drake Invitational tomorrow morning with singles play, beginning at 8 a.m.
