Northern Illinois Opens Competition at Texas Relays

March 29, 2012

AUSTIN, Texas - The Northern Illinois track & field team kicked off their weekend at the Texas Relays Thursday as Jenelle McCalla being the lone Huskie to compete on the day.

"Though we did not get the results we expected today, we can still take some positives out of Jenelle's performance," said Huskie head coach Connie Teaberry. "For an individual to qualify for the Texas Relays and compete against the nation's best is quite an accomplishment in itself, but it will also give Jenelle motivation to redeem herself in the next few meets. As a team, we'll definitely be ready for tomorrow's events."

McCalla took sixth place in the third heat of the women's 400 hurdles with a time of 1:04.40, beating out Long Island's Brittnay McClain and Maresha Carrie of SMU. In the 60-athlete field, the Whitby, Ontario, native claimed 48th place overall.

The Huskies continue their run at the Texas Relays Friday at 9:30 a.m.  Janay Mitchell and Rasheta Butler will compete in the 100 meters, while Roneisha Frye and Megan Gregory run in the 100 hurdles. In addition, the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay teams open the day with the preliminaries.
