CLEVELAND – Five members of the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team earned Academic All Mid-American Conference for the indoor season, announced by the league office on Wednesday (April 8).
Emma Curry (Oakville, Ontario/Nelson),
Stella Oyebode (Ilorin, Nigeria),
Jasmijn Raes (Amsterdam, Netherlands),
Samira Rosenfeld (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and
Precious Umukoro (Villarreal, Spain) each collected the all-league honor.
This is the second consecutive season in which Rosenfeld, a psychology major with a 3.453 grade point average, has earned Indoor Academic All-MAC honors. Each of NIU's other four honorees are receiving the recognition for the first time. Curry is a marketing major with a 3.87 GPA, Oyebode is majoring in sport management with a 3.201 GPA, Raes holds a 3.981 GPA while majoring in art and Umukoro majors in industrial and systems engineering and has a 3.976 GPA.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must be in their second year or later, have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
NIU will return to action outdoors this Saturday, April 11, when the Huskies compete at the University of Illinois in the Illini Deca-Jam.
