DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's track and field team finished its regular season on Friday (May 8) as it claimed seven event wins in the Huskie Classic at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex.
NIU took the top two spots in the 1,500, high jump and long jump. In the 1,500 meters,
Amelie Ojeda (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) ran a personal-best time of 4:33.42 to take the top spot,
Sarah Maggio (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) was second in 4:39.16.
Jasmijn Raes (Amsterdam, Netherlands) claimed her fourth high jump title of the spring, clearing 1.66 meters (5-05.25).
Arianna Calloway (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) and
Samira Rosenfeld (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) both cleared 1.61 meters (5-03.25) to finish second and third, respectively.
Tod'Jai Ross (Kansas City, Mo./Ruskin) was fourth as she cleared 1.56 meters (5-01.25).
Rosenfeld and Ross also finished one-two in the long jump. Rosenfeld took the top spot with a leap of 5.64 meters (18-06.00), which ties for 20th this spring in the Mid-American Conference, while Ross was second with a mark of 5.60 meters (18-04.50).
In the triple jump,
Aniya Barton (Lansing, Ill./Thornton Fractional South) earned top honors with a personal-best leap of 12.08 meters (39-07.75), which ranks 14th in the MAC this spring, while
G'Nea Pitt (Spanish Town, Jamaica) took first in the javelin with a best throw of 39.25 meters (128-09).
Brooke Jordan (Hephzibah, Ga./Cross Creek) recorded a season-best time of 13.96 seconds, tied for 12th-best in the conference this season, to win the 100-meter hurdles while
Miashlie Jean (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Northeast) was third with a personal-best time of 14.13.
Roshell Rowe (Manchester, N.J./Manchester) won the 400 meters with a time of 57.02 seconds.
In the 100 meters,
Esther Momalife (Lagos, Nigeria) was second with a personal-best time of 11.94 seconds, tied for 19th in the MAC.
Stella Oyebode (Ilorin, Nigeria) was third in a season-best 11.97 seconds while
Precious Akinsanya (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) was fourth in a personal-best 11.99 seconds.
Sanaii Vaughn (Gurnee, Ill./Warren) claimed second in the 400-meter hurdles, running a personal-best time of 1:04.27, which ranks inside the top-25 in the MAC this season.
Next week, the Huskies will travel to Muncie, Ind., for the MAC Outdoor Championships, May 14-16.
