DEKALB, Ill. – Three members of the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team,
Sarah Maggio (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley),
Jasmijn Raes (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and
Precious Umukoro (Villarreal, Spain), have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Cross Country/Track & Field Team, announced by the organization on Tuesday (June 23).
Raes is an art major with a 3.98 grade point average. The Huskie sophomore scored in the high jump at both the MAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships, earning a fourth-place finish indoors before tying for ninth at the conference outdoor meet. Raes won fourth high jump competitions during the outdoor season after picking up a pair of high jump wins indoors.
Umukoro majors in mechatronics engineering and has a 3.92 GPA. She claimed a third-place finish in the triple jump at the MAC Outdoor Championships, recording the third-best mark in program history at 12.85 meters (42-02.00) and earned a trip to the NCAA West First Round in the event. Umukoro also scored in the long jump at the MAC Outdoor Championships, claiming an eighth-place finish.
Maggio is a graduate student in mechanical engineering with a 3.77 GPA. She ran the third-best time in program history in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the MAC Outdoor Championships, running 10:33.65, to earn a seventh-place finish.
To be eligible for Academic All-District recognition, a student-athlete must have a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically. A track and field student-athlete must also be in the top-50 regional rankings for an individual event, indoor or outdoor.
