DEKALB, Ill. – Jourdan Doffeny has been named the new Northern Illinois University women's track and field head coach, announced by Director of Athletics and Recreation
Sean T. Frazier on Monday (Oct. 5). An NIU alum, Doffeny competed for the Huskies from 2015-17 and spent three seasons as an assistant coach with NIU from 2021-24.
Doffeny returns to DeKalb following two years as head track and field coach at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn.
"We are pleased to welcome Jourdan back to DeKalb to lead our women's track and field program," said Frazier. "Having both competed as a Huskie and been an assistant coach with the program, she is uniquely qualified for this position leading NIU women's track and field. I look forward to the future of the program in the Horizon League under Jourdan's leadership."
During her time at Christian Brothers, Doffeny led Buccaneer student-athletes to six school records and eight conference podium finishes, including a runner-up finish by Gioia Scopel in the high jump at the 2026 Gulf South Indoor Championships and a runner-up finish by Joseph Heinz in the 110-meter hurdles at the 2025 Gulf South Outdoor Championships.
"I would like to thank Sean Frazier,
Matt Gonzalez and
Courtney Vinson for their trust in me to become the head coach of this program," said Doffeny. "I'm just so happy to return to NIU. As an alum, it was exciting to come back as an assistant coach, but to come back as head coach is even more special. I'm looking forward to building on Coach Teaberry's legacy as we get started in the Horizon League. I'm excited to get started, in a new league with some new traditions, creating a culture and a standard that is the Huskie way."
Doffeny takes the leadership of the NIU women's track and field program following the departure of Connie Teaberry who had been head coach for the past 22 years.
"What an amazing way for NIU Track and Field to enter the Horizon League with the hiring of Coach Doffeny," said Teaberry. "She has represented NIU as an athlete, alum, assistant coach/recruiting coordinator and now head coach of the program. She knows the area, campus and recruited five of the athletes on the current roster. Most importantly she's a great leader, supporter, listener and phenomenal coach. Her transition will be seamless.
"As her former coach, co-worker and friend, I could not be happier and prouder than knowing that Coach Doffeny will be leading the team into a new era of success, along with the rest of the staff. She will represent the campus, athletics and the team with pride. I'm truly excited for the athletes and Coach Doffeny and will be cheering for the team's success!"
During her time as an assistant coach, Doffeny helped the Huskies to a third-place finish at the 2022 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, as well as top five finishes at the 2022 (4th) and 2023 (5th) MAC Outdoor Championships. NIU had six NCAA Preliminary qualifiers during the 2022 outdoor season.
She helped mentor Kadeja Campbell to MAC titles in the 200 and 400 meters at the 2023 conference indoor meet, where she was also named Most Outstanding Track Performer of the Championship.
Prior to her time as an assistant with the Huskies, Doffeny worked at Lindsey Wilson College, where she coached Emilija Kusic to a runner-up finish in the heptathlon at the 2021 NAIA National Championship as the Blue Raider women's track and field team finished 26th at the national meet.
Doffeny began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa during the 2017-18 school year, where she helped produce four NJCAA Indoor and Outdoor National Championship qualifiers in jumps and hurdles.
The following year, Doffeny worked assistant coach at Concordia University Irvine (Calif.) where she helped the Eagles to top-four finishes in the PacWest Conference Championship before moving to Lindsey Wilson at the start of the 2019-20 campaign.
As a student-athlete at NIU, Doffeny was a standout multi-event competitor, finishing third in the pentathlon in 2016 and fourth in 2017 at the MAC Indoor Championships while taking second in 2016 and third in 2017 in the heptathlon at the MAC Outdoor Championships.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Doffeny earned her bachelor's degree from NIU in 2017 and a master's degree from Concordia-Irvine in 2020.
