GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Jasmijn Raes (Amsterdam, Netherlands) of the Northern Illinois University women's track and field team won the collegiate high jump as the Huskies competed at the Tom Jones Memorial, hosted by the University of Florida.
"Florida was an excellent meet for the athletes that traveled to experience," said NIU Director of Track and Field
Connie Teaberry. "This was a hard meet to fully be ready for, flying and arriving at 10 p.m. to the hotel the night before and having to get up the next morning to compete. Their legs were heavy but even through what they were feeling they corrected some technical issues we had been working on. Performance times and marks may not reflect how great an experience this was for them, but we will see the dividends in the future when it counts."
Raes took top honors in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.74 meters (5-08.50) on her second attempt at the height. She earned the victory by tiebreaker over Jeanne Le Goff of Texas who cleared 1.74 meters on her third attempt. The mark is the best for Raes this spring and ranks fifth in the Mid-American Conference.
In the 400 meters,
Roshell Rowe (Manchester, N.J./Manchester) ran a season-best time of 56.66 seconds.
Miashlie Jean (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Northeast) was 14th in the 100-meter hurdles, running a time of 14.37 seconds, while
Arianna Calloway (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs) was 16th in the high jump, clearing 1.61 meters (5-03.25).
In the triple jump,
Precious Umukoro (Villarreal, Spain) finished just outside the top-20 with a best mark of 11.80 meters (38-08.75).
Next week, the Huskies will travel to both the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas.
