DeKALB, Ill. - Redshirt freshman Dor Amir was named to the Mid American Conference's All-Academic honorable mention squad, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning. Amir is the first Huskie to receive distinction since Javier Bernabe in 2010.
Amir, a native of Israel, is undecided on his major at Northern Illinois but carried a 3.60 cumulative grade point average during the season. Along with his stellar grades, Amir was one of the Huskies top players on the court, recording a 21-7 singles record at Nos. 1, 2 and 3 and an 18-11 doubles register, including 16 wins at No. 1. At season's end, he was named to the All-MAC first team.
Now an assistant coach, Bernabe was the last Huskie to be named to the Academic All-MAC team in 2010, earning the honor three times during the course of his career. The Northern Illinois men's tennis squad finished the season 21-7 and 4-1 in the Mid-American Conference, en route to a co-Regular Season Championship, NIU's first in the MAC and seventh championship. The Huskies had won three conference championships each in the Mid Continent and Midwestern Collegiate Conferences.
