DEKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University women's gymnastics team saved its best for last as the Huskies posted a 191.950-191.275 victory over Lindenwood at the Convocation Center Friday night.

The Huskies (3-0), who trailed Lindenwood (0-3) 144.325-144.075 heading into the third rotation, outscored the Lions in the final two events of the evening. NIU outscored the Lions 47.800-46.950 on the balance beam and 47.875-47.675 on the floor exercise to pull out the victory.

"We're not worried about that part of the meet per se," NIU head coach Sam Morreale said of the Huskies coming from behind. "We're just trying to keep getting better and keep hitting.

"It's been beneficial for us that we've ended on events we've done really well on. Hats off to the kids for getting the job done."

While Lindenwood swept the top spot in all four events and the all-around, the Huskies took most of the other top five spots, especially on the uneven parallel bars, beam and the floor exercise.

Lauren Africano was the highest-placing Huskie on the bars, scoring a 9.675, to take second, while Amanda Stepp, finished second in the vault with a 9.775. Stepp took fourth on the beam and floor exercise with a 9.700 and 9.650 respectively.

Megan Greenfield was another top finisher for the Huskies as she finished second on the balance beam with a 9.775. Courtney Dowdell took fourth on the bars with a 9.625, while Morgan Johnson followed with a season-high 9.600 on the uneven bars.

Jaeylyn Olsen, who saw her first action of the season made the most of her opportunity. The junior from Bethany, Okla. scored a 9.750 to take third on the beam. Kelly Nortz took third on the floor exercise with a 9.700.

"We're of the mentality that whoever's turn it is to go in, they have to get the job done," he said. "We have the start values for all the kids, that's the positive we can take from this. They're getting experience."

The Huskies return to conference action Sun., February 1 when NIU travels to Western Michigan to take on the Broncos. The action is set to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
