NIU Football 2015: Ball State Game Postgame Notes

Oct. 10, 2015

Recap |  Final Stats

***With its 59-41 victory over Ball State Saturday, NIU retained possession of the Bronze Stalk Trophy for the seventh consecutive year. The Huskies tied the all-time series with the Cardinals at 20-20-2 and have not lost to Ball State since 2008.

***NIU’s 28 points scored in the first half gave the Huskies their most points scored in four games, since the 57-26 win over Murray State on Sept. 12. The Huskies’ 59-point outburst in the game was the most in 24 games, since Nov. 2, 2013, when the Huskies posted a 63-0 win over UMass in Foxboro.

***Quarterback Drew Hare completed 29-of-32 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns Saturday. His completion percentage of 90.2 percent broke the NIU mark for single game completion percentage (minimum of 20 completions) previously owned by Chandler Harnish, who completed 81.8 percent of his throws (27-of-33) on Sept. 10, 2011 versus Kansas.

***Hare’s 363 passing yards was a career high for the junior and ranks 11th all-time on the Huskies’ single-game passing yardage list. Hare has three 300-yard passing games on the year, and for his career.

***After missing on his second pass of the day, Drew Hare completed his last 14 passes of the half. His streak was broken on his first pass of the second half.

***Not counting the last play of the first half, on which the Huskies took a knee, NIU scored on nine consecutive possessions beginning in the second quarter, until taking a knee to end the game.

***NIU wide receiver Kenny Golladay scored the first rushing touchdown of his career in the second quarter on a three-yard run, and added a 34-yard pass reception score in the fourth quarter. Golladay now has four touchdowns on the season.

***Sophomore cornerback Shawun Lurry intercepted Ball State QB Riley Dean in the second quarter for his sixth interception of the season. Lurry, who entered the game with more interceptions than anyone in the country, has at least one interception in each of the Huskies’ last four games. He continues to add to his NIU school record for interception return yards in the season with 162 after a 20-yard return Saturday.

***NIU converted 11 of its 14 third down tries Saturday, a season high.

***Desroy Maxwell recorded his second touchdown of the season on a 13-yard catch in the second quarter. It was the fifth touchdown recorded by an NIU tight end in 2015.

***Running back Joel Bouagnon scored two scores to up his season total to 10 on the year. Bouagnon has four games with multiple rushing touchdowns this year.

***Receiver Aregeros Turner caught a career-high eight passes for 70 yards, tying his career high for receiving yards.

***NIU put together its longest drive of the season in the second half with a 97-yard, 14-play effort that took 4:50 off the clock. The drive ended on the first play of the fourth quarter on a four-yard touchdown run by Drew Hare. NIU had not had a scoring drive of longer than 65 yards since the Murray State game.
