Frederic Cadieux Named First Team All-MAC

April 29, 2015

CLEVELAND -- Senior Frederic Cadieux (Verdun, Quebec, Canada/Ediuard-Montpetit) of the Northern Illinois University men's tennis team was named to the All-Mid-American Conference First Team announced by the league office on Wednesday.

The all-conference honor is the third for Cadieux in his NIU career, he was previously named to the All-MAC Second Team in 2013 and 2014.

"To be recognized in three out of four years as an All-MAC selection is a pretty big accomplishment for him," said NIU head coach Patrick Fisher. "He is a three-time MAC champion, finished with 95 singles wins and is in the top-10 in doubles wins, and he accomplished all of that in just three-and-a-half years because he joined us in January (of his freshman year), so he didn't play that first fall.

"We have had some really good players but, based on accomplishments, he is probably the best player ever to come through NIU. There isn't anyone who has won as much, individually or as part of a team, as Fred has. He has been a total team player who was always focused on team results and I look forward to him coming back and being inducted into the NIU Hall of Fame one day."

Playing primarily at number one singles, Cadieux posted a 17-12 mark this season, and a 12-6 record in dual match play. Cadieux's 17 victories pushed his career total to 95 singles wins, tied for the third-most in NIU history with Marty Engel (1991-95), Erik Andersch (1987-91) and Dan Bowers (1984-89).

In addition to his singles prowess, the senior from Quebec also posted a 16-13 doubles record this season, including a 3-1 mark in conference matches. Cadieux closes his Huskie career with 66 doubles victories, tied for ninth-most in NIU history with Dustin Dorbin (1989-93).

Cadieux helped lead the Huskies to an 18-6 overall record and their second consecutive MAC regular season championship. In his four seasons at NIU, Cadieux and the Huskies won three regular season conference titles, including a share of the 2012 league crown.
