Forty-Three Student-Athletes Earn NIU Degrees

May 13, 2015 DEKALB, Ill. -- Forty-three Northern Illinois University student-athletes from 14 Huskie teams celebrated their graduation as commencement was held on Saturday, May 9 at the NIU Convocation Center.

NIU's 43 student-athlete graduates represent 19 majors, including accountancy, finance, leadership and management, organizational/corporate communications, pre-physical therapy and speech language pathology/audiology, each of which featured three or more graduates. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is represented by 20 student-athlete graduates, the College of Business and the College of Health and Human Sciences are each represented by 11 graduates and one graduate represented the College of Education.

"Congratulations to all of our spring 2015 NIU student-athlete graduates," said Sean T. Frazier, NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics.  "Their ability to accomplish this life-changing goal of earning a college degree while competing at the highest levels of intercollegiate competition sets them apart and now propels them into the future.  We are extremely proud, and thank them for continuing to set the standard which has led NIU to rank first in the MAC, and among the best programs in the country, in graduation success."

Seven members of both the NIU baseball and football teams received their degrees this spring; Men's basketball and gymnastics were each represented with four graduates. Three student-athletes graduated from NIU this spring representing the women's basketball, women's soccer, men's tennis, track & field and volleyball teams. Men's soccer had a pair of spring graduates while men's golf, women's golf, softball and women's tennis were each represented with one graduate.
