YPSILANTI, Mich. -- The Northern Illinois University women's gymnastics team suffered a 194.775-193.950 loss at Eastern Michigan in the Convocation Center Saturday afternoon.

"We were solid everywhere, we just weren't great everywhere," said NIU head coach Sam Morreale. "We're happy with the score. We're happy to be able to almost go 194 on what really wasn't our best day. We had a lot of good individual performances, we just didn't put together a string of great performances on any one event."

NIU's (1-3, 0-2) beam team scored a season-best 48.475, while the floor squad continues to perform well. The Huskies scored a 48.650, their second-highest score of the year. Three Huskies finished in first place, and another took second.

Andie Van Voorhis (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard) finished in first on vault, scoring a 9.800. In her return to her hometown, Jamyra Carter (Ypsilanti, Mich./Huron) tied for first on bars with a 9.850 on bars. Freshman Anna Martucci (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) had the best meet of her young career. Martucci tied for first on floor with a 9.850 and took second on beam with a 9.775.

NIU outscored the Eagles (7-1, 2-0) on vault, scoring a 48.475, while Eastern Michigan posted a 48.450. In addition to Van Voorhis' 9.800, Ashley Potts (Oakwood Hills, Ill./Prairie Ridge) and Megan Greenfield (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) took fourth with a 9.700.

"This is the second week in a row where we kind of fell ourselves out of winning the meet," Morreale said. "My challenge to them was let's put a meet together and make someone beat us.

NIU returns to action Sunday when the Huskies travel to Kent State. The meet starts at 1 p.m. CT.
