DEKALB – The NIU men's golf team will travel to Kennesaw, Ga. To compete in the Pinetree Intercollegiate hosted by Kennesaw State on Monday and Tuesday. The tournament was originally scheduled to be 54 holes but due to weather forecasts, they will only play 18 holes on each day to make it a 36-hole tournament.
The Huskies are competing for the first time since they finished up play at the Windon Memorial Classic on Oct. 9. NIU finished 13
th out of 15 teams at the Northwestern hosted tournament but will hope to finish the fall schedule on a positive note.
The NIU lineup will consist of the same top-three that has played in every fall tournament in 2017 in
Thomas DeMarco (Lasalle, Ontario, Canada/Morehead State),
Joo-Young Lee (Hillard, Ohio/Xavier) and
Jordan Less (Elmhurst, Ill./York) with
Matt Cholod (Courtice, Ontario, Canada/Morehead State) and
Russell Matos (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard South) being placed in the fourth and fifth spots.
Less shot the best 54-hole score of any Huskie at the Windon two weeks ago with his 214 (+4) to finish tied for 23
rd. DeMarco and Cholod each shot a 229 (+19) at the Evanston Golf Club with Lee posting the second-best score at 223 (+13) for NIU 14 days prior.
NIU will play in groups with host school Kennesaw State, Wisconsin and Southern Illinois in a shotgun start scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. ET, 12:00 CT. The rest of the field includes golfers from Mercer, Florida Gulf Coast, Nicholls State, Jacksonville State, Gonzaga, Western Kentucky and Belmont.
After Tuesday, the Huskies will pack up the golf clubs until spring competition begins on March 9 where they will begin their six-tournament slate with the Jackrabbit Invitational in Boulder Creek, Nev.
