DeKALB, IL – Sophomore
Conner McCall (Vandalia, Ill./Vandalia Community) was named the Mid-American Conference Men's Golfer of the Week on Friday for his top-10 finish at the Lake Las Vegas Invitational earlier this week.
This is McCall's first career MAC weekly honor. McCall finished a career-best tied for sixth with a 54-hole score of seven-under par 209 which was also a career-best. He led the Huskies on Wednesday with a career-best 18-hole score of five-under par 67. McCall had six birdies on the day, four of which came on the back nine. He also had NIU's low round in Monday's opening round with a two-under par 70 highlighted by an eagle on the par-five sixth hole.
The Huskies' 277 in Wednesday's final round was the sixth-lowest 18-hole team score for NIU since 1980. It was the eighth time NIU posted a score under 280 since January of 2021. The Huskies finished with a season-low 54-hole team score of 847, the fourth-lowest score for NIU since 1980. At 17-under par NIU tied with Coastal Carolina for third place.
McCall is the third NIU golfer to earn MAC Golfer of the Week this season.
Craig Long (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) was named Co-Golfer of the Week on Sept. 26 after winning the individual title at the Badger Invitational.
Devin Swoyer (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) earned the award on Oct. 17 after tying for fifth at the Purdue Fall Invitational.
NIU is back in action March 13-15 at the Schenkel Invitational, hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club.
