Ludwig Adds Five to NIU 2018-2019 Wrestling Team

Five new signees adds to the already young Huskies wrestling team

DEKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois head wrestling coach Ryan Ludwig announced the signing of five quality grapplers to the already talented Huskie squad on Wednesday. 
 
"We addressed lineup needs with high quality individuals," said Ludwig. "These men can wrestle and have had a lot of success on the mat."
 
Three different states are represented in this year's signing class. Carlos Champagne (Griffin, Ind./Marion Catholic [Illinois]), Hayden Krein (Sparta, Wis./Sparta), Dalton Hoover (Mingo Junction, Ohio./Martins Ferry), Gage Braun (Springfield, Ohio/St. Paris Graham), and Terrese Aaron (Mexico, Mo./Mexico) have signed on to wrestle for the Huskies. 
 
The 2017-18 Huskies have a roster with nine freshmen and eight redshirt sophomores.  These five signees will help build on an already successful roster that Ludwig and his staff have put together. 
 
"They are men of character and share the NIU wrestling vision of achievement in all aspects of life," said Ludwig.  "We are excited about this class in the early signing period."

  • Junior AA Greco Champion
  • Nationally ranked #14 according to Wrestling USA Magazine

Dalton Hoover (Mingo Junction, Ohio/Martins Ferry)
  • Third Place finish at the Ohio State Wrestling Tournament
 
Gage Braun (Springfield, Ohio/St. Paris Graham)
  • Finalist at the Ohio State Wrestling Tournament
  • Nationally ranked #17 according to flowrestling.com
 
Terrese Aaron (Mexico, Mo./Mexico)
  • Missouri State Wrestling Champion
  • NHSCA National Champion
  • Nationally ranked #13 according to flowrestling.com
 
The Huskie grapplers will travel to St. Charles, Mo. for the Lindenwood Open on Saturday.  Competition starts 9 a.m. CT.
